He stressed that the interactions of nutritional and life style factors with human physiology, biochemistry, pathology and anatomy and the clinical application of these interactions in the optimisation of health and the prevention and treatment of disease

In her review on COMMON GENETICS AND METABOLIC DISEASES IN SAUDI ARABIA Dr Aqeel discussed the fact that Middle Eastern cultures are tribal and heavily consanguineous. Marriage between cousins has been part of the culture for millennia leading to "founder" effect and a large number of autosomal recessive diseases. She concluded by stressing that early recognition is important to initiate treatment and to prevent complications.
